Last night home/ Figuring out technicalities in Cincinnati
Hooray for wifi! For about $5 in Cincinnati, I can connect to the internet wirelessly for an hour. For about $10, I can get 24 hours. Hopefully I will not require that much time (crossing fingers). My first flight from Hartford to Cincinnati wasn't too eventful.
Wait, back up. There were a few snafus. First, it turns out that my checked baggage was about 12lbs overweight. Not what I was expecting. I'll have to find a way to whittle down the weight while I'm in Denver, especially as I'm likely to pick up some souvenirs along my travels.
After that little shock, my carry-on bag was "thoroughly" searched at the security checkpoint at Bradley. Apparently my international power adapter scared someone :) Though inconvenient, I'm glad for the high level of security. I'd rather they err on the side of caution than find out someone smuggled explosives onto a plane. Pleasant thought, huh?
So I've learned of another new challenge that I wasn't expecting. My plan was to write to a journal document on my computer while offline, then add the post to my blog whenever I could get online. Apparently I can not do that. Anyone have some tips?
Well, here's a recap of yesterdays entry:
Last night Dan drove me to my Mom's house. We had a wonderful fish dinner (great new recipe, Mom!) with her boyfriend. For desert there were Mom's famous brownies.
This was a rather emotion full night for me (and for those around me, I might assume). I got that familiar heaviness in my heart. I remember it well from when I first left for college and then when I left college to return home. It's that "goodbye" feeling. That feeling when you must leave, but you know you are going to miss those people. To some degree, I could do without that feeling. It's uncomfortable. But really, I wouldn't give it up. To me, it helps me to remember that I care about those that I'm leaving...and that I know that they care about me.
Thankfully, I'm not so worried about the time away. 6 Months. It's half a year, but as I learned in college, a semester goes by in the blink of an eye. Before I know it, I'll be back home planning ski trips :) In the meantime, I just might travel the world or something. My my my, I'm in for a wild ride!
