November 14th & 15th
November 14th, 2006: Day 1 of Advance Team
- “I’ll rise but I wont shine, Mom!”
- Can’t get the coffee maker to work
- I try to unlock the neighbor’s door. They look the same, just one floor apart.
- Karin, Erik, and Emmi meet Christian (our Local Organizing Committee) and get our bearings….in an army bunker.
- No wifi? No cell phone reception? How is this supposed to work?
- Erik and Emmi plan our school presentation
- Andres tells of his many adventures over dinner. He’d fit in really well with the “New D” crew. What a thrill seeker!
November 15th, 2006:
- School presentation at the Steiner Schule, our soon-to-be CI site
- Viewing the facilities and getting organized
- We finally get Sim cards. Ahhhh, just when I got used to not having a cell phone. Oh well, I gotta get plugged back into society at some point.
- Calling to find host families
- Note to Cast A: DON’T DISRESPECT YOUR HOST FAMILY, it makes finding host familes the next year REALLY HARD…and stuff is already REALLY HARD. What goes around comes around
- Replying to emails until the wee hours. How long can someone last like this? I have a new appreciation for what the ERCs and the advance teams have done, and continue to do.
