Kick back to undergrad
June 17th, 2006: I veto goodbyes. I know, I know. I spend countless sessions talking with my clients about the importance of goodbyes, but man, they suck when you meet people with whom you make a strong connection. So, needless to say, instead of having an easy goodbye, I sat up chatting with Kevin until the wee hours of the morning.
Oh was I hurting in training today. We had a good guest speaker, Regina Hueter, M.A., Executive Director of the Denver Crime Prevention and Control Commission and I found myself doing the “close one eye, open the other” dealy that I used to do in college to try to stay awake while “resting my brain”. As always, it didn’t work. Thankfully I was able to relate to a lot of her work as we are both clinicians with Masters in Counseling degrees. It was nice to hear that she had a similar perspective in working with gang related clients as I do…..Don't try to change'em; help’em to find healthier options.
The remainder of the day was spent in choir and dance rehearsal. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I think I was selected to be a center stage dancer for two pieces. About twenty of us were sectioned off and taken to a separate room to learn more specific dance choreography for the latin piece. Then, once that piece was taught, half of that crew was kept and I remained as another ten (?) joined for the African piece. Again, not trying to get my hopes up, especially as I feel that I’ve been tripping over my feet like never before. But it would be cool to be back on center stage again, huh? Time will tell. I’m just glad to be doing this.
Well, Wouter was very smart and got to bed early. I think I’m going to follow his lead as we were both going neck and neck as far as who would fall asleep in his dinner first. Thankfully, neither of us are wearing our tacos on our faces, but I do need lots of sleep.
Take care all.
